THE MONTEVIDEO PLAYERS SOCIETY

The Montevideo Players Society is an amateur theatre group which produces plays exclusively in English.
Part of the British Council, the Society was created by the British community back in 1949, making it
one of the oldest independent theatre companies in the country, the oldest English speaking one, and
the oldest English speaking independent theatre group in South America.

Current Production:

                    WHY again?

About the play

“WHY again?” That’s the question we asked ourselves, and the question everyone who saw “WHY” asked too. Is this “WHY… Again?” Well… yes. And no. It’s complicated. But not really.

Let us assure you our producers totally didn’t force us to include the following note (what we affectionately call the “Brittle Bird advisory”):

This production contains satirical and comedic material that touches on themes such as religion, sex, death, politics, pseudoscience, and personal freedom. It is claimed to be only for adult audiences (+18), and may cause laughter, reflection, and/or mild existential discomfort.

This show’s content aims to be both lighthearted and thought-provoking, nonetheless viewer discretion is advised. Not because we expect outrage, but because while all efforts have been made to ensure nothing is too much for anyone, we understand that tastes -and thresholds- vary.

All shows  8.30 PM  except Sundays (7 PM).

Doors open 30 minutes before the start of the performance.

Please factor in time for parking. There is  NO admittance after the show starts .

Venue

The play takes place at our home, the Neil Fairless Centre. Here, if you so wish, you can live the experience of speaking English all the way as if you were attending theatre and a pub in London. Also, if you indicate so in the booking form, you can meet at least part of the cast & crew after the performance (subject to cast availability).

At the pub you can order Davok craft beer, Guinness beer, wine, spirits or soft drinks, and have pasties and pizza.

The pub opens 30 minutes before the performance starts, during the intermission and after the show.

Latest Activity of the Month:

            Towel Day

About the activity

Are you a sci-fi and/or humour fan? Then join us for an improbably delightful evening celebrating the genius of Douglas Adams, where towels are mandatory, trivia is mostly harmless, and poetry is deeply unpleasant (on purpose). The Montevideo Players are celebrating Towel Day on Sunday, May 25th, at 7 p.m., at the Neil Fairless Centre. Expect Vogon verse, dramatic quotes, spontaneous towel-based theatre, and an enthusiastic disregard for logic, time, and the space-time continuum.

Bring a towel. Bring a sense of humour. Bring your trivia skills. And whatever you do, don’t forget where your spaceship is parked.
